Dr. Frank Pintar is a professor and vice chair for research in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin; adjunct professor of biomedical engineering at Marquette University; and director of the Neuroscience Research Laboratories at the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. These laboratories occupy more than 45,000 square feet and employ seven PhD scientists and 30 staff, including an acceleration servo sled and a vehicle crash test facility. Over the years, Dr. Pintar has served as a research mentor to more than 30 graduate students, post-docs, residents, fellows, and junior faculty in the medical school and engineering school. At the Neuroscience Labs, there is an emphasis on finding solutions to clinically relevant problems by fostering collaboration with neurosurgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, neuroradiologists, emergency medicine, and physical medicine/rehab specialists and pathologists. He has received grant awards from the National Institutes of Health, Veterans Administration, US Centers for Disease Control, US Department of Transportation, the Department of Defense, and foundations. Dr. Pintar has authored more than 600 research publications, including two books on head and neck trauma and more than 240 peer-reviewed journal papers.
